SALEM, IN, July 3 – The Papa John’s Firecracker 200 was halted by rain on Sunday evening at Salem Speedway and will be resumed one week later.
Will Kimmel of Sellersburg, Ind., was leading the race when the red flag was displayed on lap 53 due to lightning in the immediate area. Heavy rains started shortly after the race was stopped and the decision was then made to reschedule the remainder of the event.
Kimmel’s cousin, Frank Kimmel II, was running second when the race was halted and Chuck Barnes Sr. was third. Brett Hudson and Todd Kempf rounded out the top five. Kyle Hadley, Chad Hall, Shawn Smith, Chris Baynes and Donnie Woodard made up the second five when the red flag waved.
The race will resume on Sunday afternoon, July 10th with the cars in the same running order as when the race was halted. A tentative race time of 1 p.m. has been announced for the rescheduled event.
